I have been enjoying my experience with my new Amcrest camera, model IP8M-VD2893EW-AI. The camera itself was boxed and packaged quite well, surviving the shipment to my home without issue. I unboxed the camera, and knew before going in that it does not come with either a power or PoE adapter. This is fine, as I have a PoE injector and was able to make the camera operational on my network in no time.Mounting the camera outside was pretty simple, given the included template for mounting it. The housing must be taken off from the camera before mounting. This is also necessary in order to align the camera toward the desired view. This is not a pan/tilt camera - another fact I knew when purchasing it. Alignment was easy, and the housing reattached to the mounted camera body with ease using the included tools. One note - the housing contains some anti-moisture packets - I left them there, assuming it was intentional to prevent the lens from fogging up.After attaching the PoE cable, the camera powered-on and acquired an IP address. After logging-in for the first time using the default credentials, I promptly changed those credentials, and changed the IP to a static one on my network. I incorporated the device with my Synology surveillance station, and did not have any issues adding it to the software along with my other cameras from Amcrest.The web interface and camera software is familiar to the other Amcrest cameras that I have. I appreciate the familiarity, as it makes navigation and configuration quite simple. That being said, the web interface is beginning to seem a little dated. I am not a UI/UX specialist, so I cannot make any specific recommendations here. I suppose one could also say if it isn't broken, don't fix it.As usual Amcrest covers all of the details for configuration in their documentation. New to me was the capability for the camera to support face detection. Given the area of my property where I have mounted the camera (outdoors on the front porch) this is a nice inclusion. In my testing, the camera seemed to detect faces pretty well. I have not had opportunity to see how this feature works at night, but time will tell. I imagine the infrared lights on the camera will assist in this capacity. The other "AI" features are functional, and they're recognized by the Synology I have it attached to as advanced events. This helps me to save on storage, as I really only want to know when people are on my property. Old school motion detection events would always consume storage with junk like moths flying around the camera at night - but that is a thing of the past, depending on how you configure the NAS to record.The optical zoom on the camera is a nice feature as well. It's not something I can utilize much with my automated surveillance, but it has been interesting to try when checking out the video feed in real time. The image quality of the camera's sensor is superb, and my recordings are all crystal clear.In summary, I have not been let down by this purchase. Amcrest is an outstanding company that produces quality, reliable equipment, and I look forward to using this camera as a part of my fleet for years to come.
