I'm an IT engineer and I build towers in central Alaska. I haul climbing gear and electronics on bush planes, trucks, and snow machines through mud, rain, snow, and sub-zero temperatures. I've blown out bags from Eddie Bauer, GME Supply, and Petzl (among others). I now have two of these North Face Base Camp Duffels because they are practically indestructible. For me, the size LARGE is big enough to carry whatever I need but small enough to still be mobile. Also I've had them out in the rain multiple times and they have never leaked. The other guys I work with all have black, so I got red and my bag never gets confused with anybody else's.If used in a wet environment, make sure individual items that cannot get wet are packed in zip lock or similar bags. Other than that this bag is fantastic and I used it to paddle/portage across the BWCA in MN.It was a birthday gift for my 20 year old son, he's using it as a bag to return to collegePerfect piece of luggage!!! Each family member has their own Base Camp Duffel and it makes traveling so much easier. I have the XL and packed everything I needed for an extended trip oversees with no issues. The family each has the Large and holds everything and then some for a weeks worth of travel. Durable and waterproof...my wife dragged mine across the road and not even a mark. Would never use normal run of the mill luggage again!!!!The North Face has a track record of manufacturing amazing outdoor gear that is dependable! I bought 2 of these bags and love them! plenty of room that our whole family's wardrobe fits in these 2 bags saving us a lot of storage room!Much smaller than I expected for the priceThe bag size is ideal, but may be singled out for plane-side checking by some air line employees, especially if a flight is full. However, on a ten-day international trip with numerous flights, only once did I have to check the bag.Took bag up Kilimanjaro and it rained every day this bag stayed dry some of the other knockoff bags like this got sleeping bags wet. Not fun.
