The North Face Men's Hedgehog Fastpack II Waterproof Hiking Shoes - Lightweight & Durable for Outdoor Adventures, Trail Running & Backpacking

Have used this hiking boot since 2000. The construction is basically the same, but is now mesh on top instead of leather.I only need 300 miles to reach the 50k mark. These boots have been on most of the miles.I have worn my soles of my last two pair down to less than 1/8" and I just love these hikers! They're comfortable and supportive. This new model (hedgehog) of the Fastpack II no longer use Gore-tex for their waterproof membrane, but I'm sure they will keep my feet as dry as they have in the past.This series of shoes fits my needs well. It gives good support for hiking, walking, all around activities. Good traction and waterproof. I have tried other brands, but these are the best fit for me -- Whereas another shoes (same size and width) are too narrow towards the toes and cause discomfort around the bulge to the rear of the big toes, these shoes fit comfortably.Love these shoes. These are even better than my last ones!I have been walking in these shoes for over 10 years and they work very well for me. A pair lasts a year and about 12 months depending whether my walking is on or off road. It is disappointing however that the manufacturer builds a nice shoe and then puts in a shoe insert is all of 1/8 inch thick , if that. The very first thing that you should do when you open your shoes is to remove the TOTALLY USELESS insert and throw it away and replace it with a quality insert...........C'mon Northface, this is an issue that you need to fix. Having a high quality cushioned insert would make a much more comfortable shoe and then , DUH, you would sell more shoes.Todays Corporate America leaders care more about manipulating the stock market to enhance their stock options and have taken their eye from what their the real focus , which should be, 1. Their product Excellence, 2. The customers who buy their product, and 3. Their Employees......... C'mon Northface.When I weighed 380 lbs (many years ago), I used to go through shoes in 6 months... but around the early part of the century, I discovered the hedgehog and they always lasted at least 12 months and didn't cost that much more. Once I got below 250, they last longer than I normally keep my athletic shoes (my wife makes me get new ones every 12-16 months so I'm wearing something ready to go the extra mile. Gotta love her for that). I buy the new pair, keep the old pair for puttering around, and donate the "really old pair" which are always still serviceable.Update: I'm below 250lb now and I just realized I've been wearing the same Hedgehogs for over 18 months and they're still very comfortable. It's a great shoe. My only complaint about the Hedgehog is that they literally grab a hold of every surface and sometimes grab better than I expect or even want... However, until they make a mind/shoe interface, I'll take that over a shoe that doesn't grab as well any day of the week.Fit perfectI purchased these for hiking the Appalachian Trail in NH this spring/Summer/Fall. I currently am wearing them and I am not disappointed at this time, but have only hiked with them on a small local trail. They arrived quickly and on the date received with my purchase. They were boxed up well. Color is as depicted. I feel they are a little stiff to begin with, but after wearing them a couple of times they broke in easily.Excelente producto original.
