I tried this out at an REI store in-person so I knew what I was buying. I did not own the original Northface vest from the 1990s, so I can’t compare what the current vest vs. the vintage one. Overall, I’m very happy with this purchase and I have worn the vest outside with long sleeve shirt when it was in the 20s (Fahrenheit), with hat, gloves, and neck gaiter and it kept my core cold. I think the most impressive thing about this purchase is how light it is, and it’s ability to keep you warm.Highly recommend to anyone wanting a down vest system that’s capable of keeping you warm in cold environments.
