Got two of these for a trek in Kashmir India. I needed bags that could handle being tossed on top of trucks and could be lashed to a pack horse plus be big enough to carry all my hiking gear. I got medium as these appear to be the biggest that a porter or pack horse could comfortable carry. These bags have great features, plenty of solid lash points, the vinyl coated fabric can take being tossed on rocks and rough baggage handlers, heavy duty zippers (that can take a lock), a big open top for stuffing in bulky items (like my backpack), an internal compartment for documents and small items and backpack shoulder straps which are very handy for carry a heavy bag in an airport or for porters. The only thing I'd recommend is getting some sort of shoulder strap if you get two so you can have one on your back and one on your shoulder.
